Tinubu inaugurates APC committee on strategy, conflict resolution

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday in Lagos inaugurated a Committee on Strategy, Conflict Resolution and Mobilisation to address internal disputes within the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The committee is made up of APC governors, members of the Federal Executive Council and other key party stakeholders. Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, was named Chairman, while former APC National Legal Adviser, Muiz Banire, will serve as Member/Secretary.

Other members include Senator Adamu Aliero; Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum and Governor of Kwara State, Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq; Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma; as well as Governors Hyacinth Alia (Benue), Umar Namadi (Jigawa), Bassey Otu (Cross River), Abiodun Oyebanji (Ekiti) and Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta).

Also on the committee are Governors Uba Sani (Kaduna) and Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers); Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola; Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle; former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello; and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political Affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Masari.

Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Buni expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and the party leadership for the confidence reposed in the committee. He assured that members would discharge their responsibilities with dedication and a strong sense of duty.

According to him, the committee would undertake broad consultations and strategic engagements to develop inclusive and sustainable solutions to internal party challenges.

“We shall implement a system that gives everyone, especially aggrieved members, a sense of belonging and inclusion, with renewed hope. The committee will also adopt proactive measures in identifying solutions and addressing potential threats in our conflict resolution approach,” Buni said.

He cautioned members against allowing personal interests to undermine the collective objectives of the assignment.

President Tinubu had earlier stressed the importance of unity and cohesion within the APC during the party’s 15th National Executive Committee meeting held on December 19 at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja. He reminded party leaders that the APC was founded on the principles of progressive politics, inclusiveness and respect for diverse opinions.

“We must continue to be resolute that this democracy we have taken into our hands must not fail. We must be accommodating and tolerant. That is the only way we can remain resilient,” the President said.

The inauguration underscores the ruling party’s efforts to strengthen internal harmony and consolidate its political structure ahead of future electoral contests.
