59,786 inmates captured on NIMC platform, Says NCoS

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has confirmed that 59,786 inmates—about 74 percent of the total 80,879 inmates nationwide—have been successfully enrolled on the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) platform.

This was disclosed in a statement on Sunday by NCoS Public Relations Officer, Umar Abubakar, who dismissed recent media reports alleging that NIN registration had not commenced in custodial centres.

“The NIN registration exercise is ongoing and has recorded significant progress,” Abubakar said. He added that the remaining inmates are being actively registered, with systems in place to ensure the process’s completion.

The NCoS emphasized its commitment to integrating inmates into national data systems, promoting rehabilitation and digital inclusion. Abubakar urged media outlets to verify their information before publication to avoid misinformation and to support efforts within correctional facilities.
