In a series of meticulously executed operations on Monday, February 26, 2024, Nigerian Army Troops underscored their unwavering dedication to upholding public safety and security across diverse regions of the nation.
Addressing the developments, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, highlighted the successful rescue mission carried out in Kogi State. Troops effectively liberated ten passengers who had been abducted while traveling aboard a Peace Mass Transit Bus from Calabar to Abuja. The operation unfolded in Ogugu Community along the Enugu-Kogi Road within the Olamaboro Local Government Area. Acting swiftly upon receiving a distress call, the troops engaged the kidnappers, who had seized the bus and its occupants before relocating them to the nearby Ette forest. Through meticulous tracking and confrontation with the armed abductors, the troops compelled the release of the hostages unharmed, ensuring their safe return.
Furthermore, Major General Nwachukwu disclosed separate military endeavors aimed at dismantling IPOB/ESN Enclaves situated in Egbuoma/Osiam, within the Oguta Local Government Area of Anambra State. During these operations, Nigerian Army forces encountered and neutralized one terrorist associated with the group, while also confiscating a Mercedes Benz 350 4matic from their encampment.
In Nasarawa State, responding promptly to a distress call stemming from an assault on Katakpa village within the Toto Local Government Area, troops thwarted an attack by the Bassa militia group. Regrettably, the village’s Sarkin Katakpa suffered loss during the onslaught. However, swift and decisive action by the troops resulted in the repulsion of the assailants, accompanied by the recovery of substantial weaponry, including AK 47 Rifles, G3 Rifles, and assorted ammunition.
Reaffirming the Nigerian Army’s resolute commitment to protecting citizens and preserving national peace and stability, Major General Nwachukwu emphasized ongoing efforts to assert control over volatile areas.
