Major General Jamal Abdussalam, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, and Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force, South South, Operation DELTA SAFE, emphasized the crucial role of training in fostering attitudinal change and enhancing capacity building within the Nigerian Army (NA). His remarks came during the opening ceremony of the inaugural Nigerian Army Education Corps’ (NAEC) First Quarter Divisional Conference 2024 held at the Lt Gen F Yahaya Badminton Court, Port Harcourt Barracks.
The theme of the conference, “Repositioning Nigerian Army Command Schools Towards Enhanced Service Delivery,” underscores the commitment to improve educational standards within the NA. Major General Abdussalam highlighted the imperative for proactive professionalism among officers and soldiers, emphasizing that training and retraining are indispensable for achieving success in assigned tasks.

Recognizing the significance of the conference, Major General Abdussalam described it as a crucial platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and innovation, particularly in the dynamic landscape of education. He stressed that the event would facilitate discussions among educators to enhance discipline and academic excellence within NA Command Schools.
In a commendation of the conference’s organizers, Major General Bello Tsoho, the Corps Commander Education, lauded the selection of pertinent topics, considering the prevailing security challenges faced by educational institutions. He reaffirmed the NAEC’s commitment to revitalizing command schools to benefit NA personnel, their families, and host communities, thereby elevating educational standards.
The Acting Director of 6 Division Education Services, Lt Col Abdulhameed Omeiza Yakubu, underscored the importance of training as a fundamental aspect of welfare, aligning with the Chief of Army Staff’s Command Philosophy. He extended gratitude to all attendees for their participation in the conference.
The event witnessed a diverse audience comprising officers from the Armed Forces of Nigeria, representatives from paramilitary organizations, soldiers, traditional rulers, and government officials, including the Mayor of Port Harcourt City, Sir Allwell Ihunda. Additionally, teachers from command secondary schools contributed to the enriching discussions aimed at fostering educational excellence.
The conference concluded with a renewed commitment to prioritize training initiatives and collaborative efforts to enhance the quality of education within NA Command Schools, thereby reinforcing the institution’s dedication to excellence.
