DHQ frown at report on military personnel welfare, condemns call for military involvement in democracy

The Defence Headquarters has expressed displeasure over an online report concerning the welfare situation within the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the Director of Defence Information, labeled the report as deeply unpatriotic and malicious.

He argued that the report’s suggestion of military intervention in the nation’s democracy is not only wicked but also a deliberate effort to divert the Armed Forces of Nigeria from their established constitutional duties.

Gusau emphasized that the leadership of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) places significant importance on the well-being of its personnel.

He vehemently opposed any attempts by individuals or groups to incite the law-abiding AFN into participating in any form of unconstitutional alteration of the government.

He made it clear that the military has thrived under democratic governance and has no intentions of engaging in activities that could undermine the hard-won democratic system of the country. The AFN, led by Chief of Defence Staff General CG Musa, remains steadfast in its commitment to upholding the authority outlined in the constitution, which is under the guidance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Gusau affirmed that the AFN is resolute in executing its clearly defined roles as stipulated in the amended 1999 constitution, without succumbing to any distractions.
