EFCC nabs 44 alleged internet fraudsters in Calabar 

In a proactive move against cybercrime, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended forty-four (44) individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud. This operation was executed by investigators from the Uyo Zonal Command on the morning of Thursday, May 9, 2024, targeting specific areas within Calabar, Cross River State.

The suspects were rounded up in Satellite Town, Tinapa Junction, and Parliamentary Extension areas of Calabar. Among the seized items are six high-end vehicles, 16 laptops, and 38 mobile phones, believed to be tools and proceeds of their alleged fraudulent activities.

According to EFCC officials, the arrested individuals will undergo thorough investigations to ascertain their involvement in cyber-related crimes. Once the investigations are completed, they will be arraigned in court to face charges commensurate with their alleged offenses.

This swift action underscores the EFCC’s commitment to combating cybercrime and ensuring that perpetrators face the full weight of the law. Further details regarding the case are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
