NESREA to adopt innovative environmental interventions – Barikor

Dr. Innocent Bariate Barikor, the newly appointed Director General of the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), announced plans to implement innovative interventions to tackle the nation’s environmental challenges.

In his inaugural address to the agency’s management and staff on Monday, Barikor emphasized his commitment to expanding NESREA’s mandate by leveraging the NESREA Establishment Act 2007 (as amended). “We will explore innovative approaches to fulfill our mission, ensuring we act in the best interest of the nation and future generations,” he stated.

Barikor outlined goals to enhance public orientation, increase revenue generation for the government, and collaborate with external partners. He expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the trust placed in him and pledged that his administration would surpass public expectations in environmental protection.

He urged the agency’s staff to support his vision for a cleaner, healthier environment, aligning with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The outgoing Director of Inspection and Enforcement, Mr. Abdusalam Isa, assured Barikor of the management and staff’s full support. Dr. Barikor, formerly a lecturer at the University of Port Harcourt, succeeds as NESREA’s 4th Director General.
