Ikpeazu seeks spanish investment

Nigeria has intensified efforts to attract Spanish investment into its blue economy, with the Nigerian Ambassador to Spain, Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, engaging investors and industry stakeholders at the 27th International Frozen Seafood Exhibition, CONXEMAR 2026, in Vigo, Galicia.

Ikpeazu joined the opening ceremony of the international trade fair at the IFEVI Exhibition Centre on Tuesday, alongside the President of the Xunta de Galicia, senior Spanish government officials, the President of CONXEMAR, the Mayor of Vigo, members of the diplomatic corps and leading players in the global fisheries and aquaculture industries.

CONXEMAR is one of the world’s leading trade fairs for the frozen seafood sector, attracting businesses and stakeholders across the international seafood value chain.

The Nigerian Embassy in Spain said the ambassador’s participation was aimed at strengthening efforts to position Nigeria as a competitive investment destination in the blue economy, particularly in fisheries, aquaculture, maritime industries and related value chains.

On the sidelines of the exhibition, Ikpeazu held discussions with CONXEMAR officials and representatives of companies involved in packaging, marine services, fisheries and other related industries.

The engagements focused on investment and partnership opportunities, with Nigeria seeking to tap into Spain’s expertise, technology and private-sector capacity to accelerate the development of its marine and aquatic resources.

The discussions also highlighted opportunities to deepen Nigeria-Spain economic relations through private-sector partnerships, technology transfer, skills development and investments across fisheries and other ocean-based industries.

Nigeria’s blue economy covers a broad range of activities linked to marine and aquatic resources, including fisheries, aquaculture, maritime transportation, marine tourism and other ocean-based enterprises.

The embassy said Ikpeazu’s participation at CONXEMAR provided an important platform for Nigeria to showcase investment opportunities while engaging directly with international companies and potential investors.

It added that the embassy would continue to pursue initiatives aimed at expanding Nigeria-Spain economic cooperation and attracting investments capable of supporting economic diversification, job creation and sustainable growth of Nigeria’s blue economy.
