FG, UN pledge SDGs achievement in Nigeria

In a demonstration of the Federal government’s resolute commitment to realizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, notable figures convened at the SDGs award event. Representing the Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mr. Godswill Akpabio, Dr. Idiat Adebule, the Senate SDGs Chair, participated in the event and lauded the UN and OSSAP-SDGs for orchestrating the SDGs Film Challenge.

Dr. Adebule extended her congratulations to all participants who utilized the power of storytelling and filmmaking to shine a spotlight on the SDGs. She highlighted the significance of their efforts in driving positive change and progress toward the Goals within the nation.

Present at the event, Mr. Ronald Kayanja, the Director of the UN Information Centre in Abuja, stood in for Mr. Matthias Schmale, the Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator of the UN System in Nigeria. Kayanja emphasized the pivotal role of the film industry in effective communication and stressed the need for an unwavering determination to foster a culture of success, which is essential for attaining the Global Goals.

Engr. Ahmad Kawu, serving as the Secretary of Programs at OSSAP-SDGs, offered his commendation during his address. He celebrated the ingenuity of the youth, particularly the entrants of the challenge, for harnessing their creative aptitude to raise vital awareness about the Global Goals. He further urged for continuous support for young individuals, equipping them with the necessary skills and resources to propel Nigeria toward achieving the sustainable development goals, thereby securing a better future for subsequent generations.
