Gov. Umaru Bago visits CDS, asks for further collaboration

The Honorable Executive Governor of Niger State, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Umaru Bago, paid a respectful visit to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, at the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) on Monday, August 14, 2023.

During the visit, Governor Bago conveyed his congratulations to General Musa for his well-deserved appointment and subsequent promotion by the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN), President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Emphasizing the significance of this occasion, the governor highlighted the vastness of Niger State’s land area, which is the largest in Nigeria, as well as its close proximity to Abuja. He pointed out that this geographic location, coupled with the presence of extensive ungoverned areas around the state, raises security concerns. In light of these challenges, Governor Bago sought enhanced cooperation with the Armed Forces to ensure a peaceful living environment for the people of Niger State.

General Musa extended a warm welcome to the governor and his delegation, also taking the opportunity to extend his congratulations on the governor’s successful election. General Musa acknowledged that while the Armed Forces of Nigeria are fully aware of the complexities on the ground, there is often an unrealistic expectation for the military to perform miracles. He reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ dedication to upholding their constitutional responsibilities with strength and unwavering commitment.

General Musa stressed the need for collaborative efforts to foster development in Niger State, underscoring that the Armed Forces can play a crucial role in this regard. He expressed gratitude for the ongoing support from the state government to the military and assured Governor Bago of the Armed Forces’ preparedness to contribute every possible effort to assist Niger State. The event was marked by the presentation of a commemorative souvenir, symbolizing the visit and the collaborative spirit between the state government and the Armed Forces.
