The House of Representatives will resume the Second Session (2024/2025) of the 10th Assembly on Thursday, June 27, 2024. This announcement was made through an internal memorandum from Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, Esq., Clerk of the House of Representatives, on Monday, June 24, 2024.
Following the adjournment on June 11, 2024, for the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, the House is now set to reconvene and begin its legislative activities.
In a statement House Spokesman / Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs Rep. Akin Rotimi Jr said a significant highlight of the upcoming session is the inaugural Legislative Open Week, scheduled from Wednesday, July 3, to Friday, July 5, 2024. Themed “Improving Inclusion through Citizens Engagement,” the event aims to promote an open parliament and enhance citizen participation in legislative and governance processes. This initiative aligns with Agenda 6 (Inclusion & Open Parliament) of the Legislative Agenda of the People’s House.
Celebrating 25 years of uninterrupted representative democracy in Nigeria, the Legislative Open Week will provide a platform for reflection on the nation’s democratic journey, the challenges faced, and future aspirations.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, will be the Special Guest of Honour, with Senate President Godswill Akpabio, CON, as the Guest of Honour, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, serving as the Chief Host. State Governors, members of the Diplomatic Community, stakeholders, and all Nigerians are invited to participate.
