Suicide bombers attack wedding, burial in Gwoza: Over 30 dead, 100 injured

The Emir of Gwoza, Alhaji Mohammed Shehu Timta, has confirmed multiple suicide bombings in Gwoza town on Saturday, resulting in over 30 deaths and more than 100 injuries. The attacks targeted a wedding reception and a burial ceremony.

The coordinated attacks caused widespread panic as residents fled for safety. Sources in Gwoza reported: “More than 30 innocent civilians were killed, with over 100 sustaining various degrees of injuries. Many victims have been evacuated to Maiduguri for medical attention.”

The Emir, speaking to journalists, described the devastation: “Gwoza is in mourning following multiple suicide attacks. The first attack was carried out by an unidentified woman with two children at a wedding reception, where she detonated her improvised explosive devices (IEDs), killing herself and many others.

“Minutes later, another bomber attacked a nearby burial ceremony, detonating IEDs and causing further casualties. As I speak, a third explosion has just occurred, increasing the number of casualties.”

“Over 100 people have been injured, with the most seriously wounded transported to Maiduguri under military escort for medical care. This is a preliminary report; details of the casualties are still emerging.”

Ahmed Usman Jaha, the federal representative for Gwoza/Chibok/Damboa, expressed his condolences to the affected families and prayed for the deceased, wishing the injured a swift recovery.
