The Nigerian Navy’s Forward Operating Base (FOB) FORMOSO, as part of its ongoing Operation Delta Sanity, has made significant strides in combating crude oil theft and illegal refining in the Niger Delta region. Recently, the Navy discovered and dismantled numerous illegal refining sites, including 10 refining ovens filled with large quantities of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) and stolen crude oil.
Captain Ifeanyi Chukwu Charles Mabeoku, the Commanding Officer of FOB FORMOSO, provided details on the operation, highlighting the use of high-resolution drones to identify and track these illegal activities. The advanced technology enabled the Navy to pinpoint the locations of the illicit refining operations, leading to their successful deactivation.
Captain Mabeoku issued a stern warning to those involved in these illegal activities, urging them to abandon their ventures immediately. “The Nigerian Navy is aggressively committed to ending illegal refining activities and crude oil theft in the Niger Delta,” he stated. “Our operations are ongoing, and we will not rest until we have completely eradicated this menace.”
