The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for establishing the Ministry of Livestock Development and expressed appreciation for Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni’s agricultural empowerment initiatives.
In a statement on Wednesday, KACRAN National President Hon. Khalil Bello praised President Tinubu’s commitment to addressing the longstanding conflicts between farmers and herders. “The creation of the Ministry of Livestock Development and a special commission dedicated to the livestock sector demonstrates the President’s historic dedication to resolving these critical issues,” Bello stated.
KACRAN has long advocated for a Federal Ministry of Livestock Development to enhance livestock productivity and mitigate conflicts. The association commended President Tinubu for his dedication to fostering peace, unity, and prosperity in Nigeria, and acknowledged his financial support for the North East Development Commission (NEDC).
Bello also highlighted the appointment of Professor Attahiru Jega as Deputy Chairman of the Commission, expressing confidence that these steps will significantly boost the agricultural sector and enhance the nation’s GDP. He urged President Tinubu to appoint a dedicated and transparent individual as Minister of the newly created ministry to realize the vision of a developed livestock sector, creating millions of job opportunities.
The statement also recognized the efforts of Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, who recently distributed 5,340 ruminants to women as part of an agricultural empowerment scheme. This initiative, providing three ruminants to ten beneficiaries in each of the state’s 178 wards, was announced during a multi-billion-naira agricultural empowerment program launched by President Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
KACRAN expressed deep gratitude for Governor Buni’s support of Yobe State farmers and pastoralists. “We highly appreciate Governor Buni’s gesture towards improving the well-being of Nigeria’s pastoralist communities,” Bello added.
The association called on all Northern Governors to emulate President Tinubu and Governor Buni in promoting the livestock sector and empowering pastoralists. “By doing so, the dividends of democracy will reach the doorsteps of our pastoralist communities, regardless of their rural or remote locations,” the statement concluded.
