In a major offensive aimed at dismantling the remnants of terrorist activities in the Northeast, the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai conducted a successful air interdiction mission on August 16, 2024, in Arina, Southern Tumbuns, Borno State. This operation targeted and neutralized several high-ranking terrorist leaders and their foot soldiers.
Prior to the strike, intelligence reports indicated the movement of terrorists into the area from neighboring locations. Further surveillance missions conducted on August 12 and 15 confirmed the presence of numerous terrorists and their concealed structures, prompting a coordinated air assault.
The airstrikes resulted in the elimination of multiple terrorists and the destruction of key infrastructure, including equipment, vehicles, water vessels, and a suspected medical dispensary. Among those reportedly killed or severely injured in the strike were five key terrorist commanders: Munzir Arika, Sani Dilla (also known as Dan Hausawan Jubillaram), Ameer Modu, Dan Fulani Fari Fari, and Bakoura Arina Chiki. Over 35 additional foot soldiers were also neutralized in the operation.
This decisive action has significantly weakened the operational capabilities of the remaining terrorist elements in the region. The Nigerian Air Force, under the directive of Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, Director of Public Relations and Information, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies in restoring peace and security to the region.
