The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT has handed over 72 bags of cannabis sativa, each weighing 40 kilograms, along with four suspects to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Marine Command. The suspects include three Ghanaians and one Beninois.
The handover took place on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, following the interception of the drugs by the NNS BEECROFT Quick Response Team on Sunday, August 25. According to Commodore Rafiu Taye Oladejo, Commander of NNS BEECROFT, who was represented by the Executive Officer, Navy Captain Mutalib Raji, the operation was initiated based on credible intelligence regarding suspicious activities around the Lekki Beach area.
This action aligns with the strategic directive of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, aimed at maintaining a secure maritime environment in Lagos and its surrounding creeks. Navy Captain Raji reiterated the Navy’s commitment to combatting drug trafficking and warned criminals to desist from such activities, emphasizing that NNS BEECROFT will continue to pursue all criminal elements within its jurisdiction.
