Nigeria warns of rising global inequality, threatens SDG 2030 targets

At the Nordic-African Business Summit in Oslo on Thursday, Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, expressed concern over growing global inequality, warning that many countries may not meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) by 2030.

Addressing the summit, Tuggar highlighted the troubling state of the global economy and rising geopolitical tensions, including conflicts in Ukraine, Sudan, and the Levant. He also pointed out the challenges faced by African nations, including the weaponization of migration and the resurgence of protectionism.

Tuggar emphasized the importance of fostering stronger economic partnerships between Africa and the Nordic countries, citing opportunities in the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). He encouraged private sector actors to leverage Africa’s potential, noting that the continent’s young population and growing technological adoption could drive future global economic growth.

Despite painting a grim picture of current global challenges, Tuggar remained optimistic about the potential for collaboration between Africa and the Nordic region, urging businesses to seize the opportunity to foster economic transformation.
