President Tinubu dispatches high-level delegation to Jigawa following deadly tanker fire

In response to the tragic tanker fire in Majia, Jigawa State, which claimed over 100 lives on Tuesday night, President Bola Tinubu has directed a high-level Federal Government delegation to visit the scene and provide support to the affected community.

The delegation, led by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, includes the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar; Minister of Transportation, Senator Saidu Alkali; Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr. Shehu Mohammed; and Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North West), Abdullahi Tanko Yakasai.

The delegation is tasked with assessing the situation on the ground, visiting the site of the incident, and offering support to the victims, including the over 50 people currently receiving medical treatment. President Tinubu has also ordered that emergency relief, including medical supplies, food, and shelter, be provided to those affected by the devastating fire.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu expressed deep sorrow over the incident, extending his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims. He prayed for divine comfort for the bereaved families and peaceful repose for the departed souls, assuring the people of Jigawa that the Federal Government stands with them in this time of grief.

The President also reiterated his commitment to ensuring that such tragedies are prevented in the future. He directed a comprehensive review of fuel transportation safety protocols across the country in collaboration with state governments. Additionally, he ordered the FRSC to intensify patrols, enforce stricter safety regulations, and implement night travel safety measures to reduce the risk of similar accidents.

Those found responsible for violating safety standards will face accountability, President Tinubu affirmed, reinforcing the government’s dedication to preventing a recurrence of such incidents and safeguarding the lives of Nigerians.
