The Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has expressed deep condolences on behalf of the Nigeria Police Force to the Government and people of Jigawa State, particularly the families affected by the tragic tanker explosion that occurred in Majia, Taura Local Government Area.
The explosion, which took place at around 11:30 pm on October 15, 2024, claimed the lives of over 100 people and left more than 70 others seriously injured.
In his statement through spokesperson, Nigeria Police Force, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP praised the swift response of police personnel and emergency services in containing the fire, evacuating victims, and restoring calm in the area.
He also reassured the public that the police would intensify safety sensitization campaigns to prevent future incidents, particularly those related to oil scooping and hazardous activities.
The IGP called on motorists and road users to strictly adhere to safety protocols and prayed for the souls of the deceased.
He reiterated its commitment to ensuring public safety across the country.
