President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has voiced deep concern over the prolonged blackout affecting Nigeria’s northern states, directing immediate actions to restore power and secure vital infrastructure.
In a statement Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga said in response to reports of widespread economic and social disruption, the President summoned Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu to discuss expedited solutions.
The President instructed Minister Adelabu and relevant agencies to prioritize swift repairs, with emphasis on the Shiroro-Kaduna transmission line, whose recent vandalism caused the extensive outage. During a meeting, Adelabu detailed ongoing restoration efforts led by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN). President Tinubu urged TCN engineers to remain resolute in providing rapid relief to affected regions.
To safeguard repair teams, Tinubu tasked NSA Ribadu with coordinating additional security, including military support from the Army and Air Force, for round-the-clock protection of repair operations.
The President also appealed to traditional and community leaders to collaborate with security forces in safeguarding public infrastructure, warning that the government will not tolerate further sabotage of essential utilities.
