Nigeria Police arrest major arms dealer, detain 1,246 suspects in one month

The Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has made significant strides in its fight against crime, recording the arrest of 1,246 suspects and recovering 3,172 rounds of various ammunition in October 2024.

According to Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police’s achievements since October 1 include the apprehension of 371 armed robbery suspects, 186 individuals linked to kidnapping, 242 murder suspects, and 63 connected to illegal possession of firearms. The force also rescued 64 kidnapping victims and recovered 118 stolen vehicles.

Among the notable arrests was that of a major arms dealer, Jubril Musa, in Plateau State. Musa was apprehended with a cache of weapons, including a makarov pistol, various rounds of ammunition, and a fabricated bronny pistol. He reportedly supplied arms to bandits and kidnappers operating in the area.

The Inspector General of Police reaffirmed the force’s commitment to public safety through tactical operations, intelligence-led policing, and community engagement strategies. He emphasized that these efforts aim to significantly reduce crime rates, including banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, and cybercrime.
