Tinubu appoints Major General Oluyede as acting Chief of Army Staff

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Major General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the Acting Chief of Army Staff, temporarily filling the role due to the current unavailability of Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, the substantive Chief of Army Staff.

This was disclosed in a press statement signed by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to PresidentBayo Onanuga

Prior to this appointment, Oluyede served as the 56th Commander of the Infantry Corps of the Nigerian Army in Jaji, Kaduna. Aged 56, he is a veteran of the Nigerian Army’s 39th Regular Course alongside General Lagbaja. Commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1992, Oluyede reached the rank of Major General in 2020.

Throughout his career, Oluyede has held key command roles, including positions as Platoon Commander and Company Commander, and served in various operations, notably in Liberia under ECOMOG, in Bakassi with Operation HARMONY IV, and in the North East as commander of the 27 Task Force Brigade. His service has earned him numerous honors, such as the Corps Medal of Honour, Grand Service Star, Field Command Medal, and the Chief of Army Staff Commendation Award.

Oluyede is married with three children.
