FCT Police Commissioner highlights successes in crime prevention and arrests

The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), CP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, held a press briefing today at the FCT Police Command, detailing recent achievements in the ongoing fight against crime within the FCT.

In a concerted effort to secure the lives and properties of residents, the FCT Police Command has recorded notable successes against armed robbery, car theft, and other criminal activities.

Three suspects involved in a notorious armed robbery and car theft gang operating across the FCT, Nasarawa, Kaduna, and Kano states were apprehended. The suspects—Aji Thomas, Amobi Ndukwe, and Amaechi Sampson—were arrested while attempting to sell a stolen Toyota Corolla. The gang’s leader remains at large, and efforts are underway to capture him.

On October 10, following a car theft report, police traced a stolen Honda Accord to Jos, Plateau State, leading to the arrest of Joseph Abang, a known car theft accomplice. Two additional vehicles undergoing rebranding were recovered at his workshop, and he admitted to selling over sixteen stolen vehicles in recent years.

On October 21, a distress call alerted police to armed robbers in Jahi. After a gunfight, two suspects were neutralized, and two others, Haruna Umar Abdullahi and Yerima Mohammed Usman, were apprehended. Four vehicles, including a Toyota Prado Jeep belonging to the victims, were recovered.

The police arrested twelve suspects linked to “one chance” robberies, where assailants impersonate security officers to rob and extort victims. The suspects admitted to various robberies in the FCT, and six vehicles used in their operations, along with weapons and stolen valuables, were recovered.

CP Disu assured residents that the FCT Command is committed to maintaining security, noting that the suspects will face court trials. He expressed gratitude to his officers for their dedication and bravery in the fight against crime, reinforcing the command’s resolve to create a safer FCT.
