The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has clarified reports concerning alleged naira abuse in a viral video, originally believed to be from the wedding of Mrs. Fauziya Danjuma Goje, daughter of Senator Danjuma Goje, held on October 24, 2024, in Kano.
The EFCC, responding to public outcry and a prominent newspaper editorial, conducted an investigation into the footage. Findings revealed that the naira abuse took place at a different event: the wedding dinner of Amina Babagana Zannah, daughter of Hajara Seidu Haruna, CEO of Hafsat Jewellery Enterprise. Haruna confirmed that her daughter’s wedding dinner involved currency spraying, with the groom’s family from Niger Republic responsible for the naira and dollar bills seen in the video.
As part of its efforts to combat currency abuse, the EFCC has summoned the Nigerien groom, Ibrahim Mohammad, along with others seen spraying currency, to its Abuja headquarters for questioning.
The EFCC emphasized its commitment to addressing currency misuse and urged vigilance, assuring the public that it will only act on verified information to uphold fairness in its investigations.
