Angola-Nigeria joint commission to kick off 2025, deepening ties

Angola is set to strengthen trade and diplomatic ties with Nigeria by launching 2025 with a meeting of the Angola-Nigeria Bilateral Joint Commission. This gathering aims to update key agreements guiding political, economic, and military cooperation between the two nations.

During Angola’s 49th Independence Day celebration in Abuja, Angola’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Jose Bamoquina Zau, highlighted the importance of this partnership. He stated, “By 2025, we want to open the year with the Angola-Nigeria Bilateral Joint Commission Meeting to update all legal instruments that guide our political, economic, and military cooperation.”

The envoy also praised Nigeria’s support during Angola’s struggle for independence and ongoing nation-building efforts. He encouraged Nigerian investors to explore opportunities in Angola’s development projects, including the Lobito Refinery, Luanda International Airport, and Angola’s ambitious highway project.

Ambassador Zau highlighted a longstanding relationship with Nigeria, noting over 60 years of cooperation and aligned positions in groups like the African Petroleum Producers Organization. He also revealed Angola’s investments in clean energy, including photovoltaic, hydrogen, and biofuel projects, aiming to generate 8 gigawatts of electricity by 2025.

In response, Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Yusuf Tuggar, extended warm congratulations to Angola on its National Day, reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations for mutual benefit
