Okpebholo mourns passing of Edo-Born oldest Catholic priest

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has expressed his condolences to the Catholic community in Edo State and beyond following the passing of Monsignor Thomas Oleghe, Nigeria’s oldest Catholic priest, at the age of 104.

In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, Governor Okpebholo praised Monsignor Oleghe’s exemplary life, describing it as a lesson in humility, sacrifice, and service.

“Although Monsignor Oleghe lived a fulfilled life and passed on at the remarkable age of 104, his absence will be deeply felt. His unwavering dedication, humility, and the countless lives he touched will forever be remembered,” the governor stated.

Governor Okpebholo highlighted Monsignor Oleghe’s contributions to his community and the Church, noting his roots in Igiode town, Agenebode, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State.

“On behalf of the government and people of Edo State, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family of Monsignor Oleghe, the Catholic Church in Nigeria, particularly the Auchi Diocese. May God grant his soul eternal rest and provide comfort to all those mourning this great loss,” he added.

The governor acknowledged the invaluable spiritual guidance and fatherly role Monsignor Oleghe played throughout his life, emphasizing that his legacy will continue to inspire generations.
