Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abuja Zonal Directorate, have arrested 24 individuals allegedly involved in internet fraud in Lokoja, Kogi State. The operation, carried out on Friday, December 6, 2024, followed actionable intelligence linking the suspects to fraudulent online activities.
During the raid, EFCC operatives recovered 30 mobile phones, six laptops, and three vehicles believed to be proceeds of illicit activities. The commission stated that the suspects are currently in custody and will be charged to court once investigations are completed.
Speaking on the development, an EFCC spokesperson reiterated the commission’s commitment to tackling cybercrime, which continues to pose a significant threat to Nigeria’s economy and international reputation. “This arrest is part of our sustained effort to rid the country of internet fraud and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice,” the spokesperson said.
The EFCC has intensified its efforts to combat cybercrime through intelligence-driven operations, public awareness campaigns, and partnerships with other law enforcement agencies. The commission also urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to relevant authorities.
