Police rescue hostages, arrest 17 in murder case

In a remarkable demonstration of valor, Police Operatives of the Imo State Command successfully rescued four kidnapped hostages on Saturday, January 4, 2025.

In a statement Force Public Relations Officer Force Headquarters, Abuja ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said the operation followed a distress call reporting the abduction in Umuokanne, Ohaji LGA, Imo State. The police swiftly located the kidnappers’ hideout and engaged them in a gunfight, neutralizing two of the kidnappers.

The operation led to the rescue of the hostages and the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 21 rounds of ammunition. The police reaffirmed their commitment to combating heinous crimes and ensuring public safety.

In another incident on January 3, 2025, Ebonyi State Police arrested 17 suspects in Enohia Itim village, Afikpo LGA, for the murder of Uromchi Okorocha. The suspects accused Okorocha of witchcraft and took justice into their own hands, leading to his death. Despite police intervention, the mob had already executed and burned Okorocha.

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., condemned the act of jungle justice and urged citizens to report suspected crimes to the police. The IGP reiterated the Force’s dedication to public safety and justice.
