Justice A.O. Owoeye of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, ordered the final forfeiture of a U-shaped two-storey building located within the premises of Goodwill Private Schools, Ikorodu, Lagos State, to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
The order followed a motion ex-parte filed on January 8, 2025, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), represented by counsel Hannatu KofarNaisa. The court had previously issued an interim forfeiture order on November 8, 2024, and mandated the publication of the order in a national newspaper to allow any interested party to contest the final forfeiture.
During Tuesday’s proceedings, KofarNaisa argued that the property was reasonably suspected to have been acquired through unlawful activities. She further informed the court that the interim forfeiture order had been published in The Punch newspaper on December 9, 2024, inviting any interested parties to show cause against the final forfeiture.
After considering the submissions, Justice Owoeye granted the motion, ordering the final forfeiture of the property to the Federal Government.
