The Islamic Development Bank has expressed satisfaction with the Yobe State Government’s readiness to collaborate on an agricultural development project.
This was disclosed by Mr. Javed Khan, Senior Agriculture Specialist at the Islamic Development Bank, during a courtesy visit to Governor Mai Mala Buni at the Government House in Damaturu.
Mr. Khan commended Yobe State for its impressive commitment to fulfilling its obligations, which he described as encouraging and promising.
Leading a team from the Bank on an assessment tour of the state, Mr. Khan evaluated the documentation and on-ground preparations for the project. He expressed confidence in the state’s dedication to the initiative.
“We initially faced discouragement about visiting Yobe State due to concerns over security. However, we insisted on coming and have been impressed by the peace and stability here, as well as the government’s commitment to the project,” Khan remarked.
He added, “We are targeting project approval within the next three months. The collaborative efforts between our team and the state’s officials suggest we will achieve this goal within the stipulated timeframe.”
In response, Governor Mai Mala Buni thanked the Bank for disregarding negative narratives about the state.
“I am pleased you chose to see Yobe for yourselves rather than rely on misleading information from those unfamiliar with our situation,” Governor Buni said. “Your visit has given you firsthand experience, and you can now share a more accurate account.”
Governor Buni highlighted the state’s readiness for the partnership, emphasizing agriculture as a key driver of economic recovery and development.
“All 17 local government areas in Yobe are accessible, enabling our people to fully engage in farming activities. This will ensure the success of the proposed project,” the Governor stated.
He underscored the project’s significance in enhancing food security and economic prosperity as part of Yobe’s post-insurgency recovery efforts.
“Our people’s resilience in returning to agriculture after prolonged insecurity is commendable and warrants strong support,” Governor Buni emphasized.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to working closely with the Bank to ensure the success of agricultural development in the state.
