General Abdussalam lauds troops for boosting oil production in Niger Delta

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Jamal Abdussalam, has praised the troops of the 63 Brigade for their contributions to increasing oil production in the Niger Delta Region.

According to Acting Deputy Director 6 Division Army Public Relations Lieut. Col. Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, General Abdussalam, delivered this commendation during his farewell address on January 21, 2025, in Asaba, Delta State.

In his speech, Major General Abdussalam highlighted the troops’ achievements over the past year, attributing the rise in oil production to their dedication. He urged them to continue their efforts to meet the Federal Government’s target of 2.3 million barrels per day (bpd), emphasizing the positive impact on Nigeria’s economy.

Currently, oil production hovers around 1.9 to almost 2 million bpd, a significant improvement. However, the GOC stressed the importance of reaching the 2.3 million bpd benchmark to avoid reliance on borrowing to fund the national budget, which could hinder economic growth.

General Abdussalam encouraged the troops to maintain discipline, professionalism, and integrity, reminding them of their duty to uphold the Nigerian Army’s esteemed image. He also advised them to ensure their personal and operational security and to resist any form of illegal activity in the region.

As he prepares to take on a new role, the GOC expressed his gratitude for the cooperation he received and urged the troops to extend the same support to his successor.

Brigadier General Ugochukwu Unachukwu, Commander of the 63 Brigade, praised Major General Abdussalam’s leadership, describing it as a morale booster. He acknowledged the GOC’s mentorship and guidance, which significantly benefited the brigade.

The farewell visit featured the commissioning of the Brigade Commander’s official residence and a newly constructed dual road named Lieutenant General TA Lagbaja Drive at the brigade’s permanent site in Ibuzo. The event also included speeches, addresses to officers and soldiers, and group photographs.
