The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), operating under the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (AC OPFY), has successfully neutralized numerous bandits and dismantled a key logistics base in Alawa Forest, Shiroro Local Government Area in Niger State.
According to Air Vice Marshal Olusola F. Akinboyewa, Director of Public Relations and Information at NAF Headquarters, the operation was conducted on January 21, 2025, following credible intelligence and confirmatory aerial surveillance, which revealed an influx of heavily armed terrorists into the forest.
“These criminals were directly linked to widespread violence, including two deadly Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attacks on December 19, 2024, in Bassa, Shiroro LGA, which resulted in the tragic loss of several innocent lives,” Akinboyewa stated.
In response, the NAF launched a meticulously planned three-day air campaign code-named KONAN DAJI to degrade the operational capabilities of the terrorists and deny them safe haven. A coordinated formation of fighter aircraft executed precision airstrikes, targeting high-value locations within the forest. The strikes successfully neutralized many armed fighters, with multiple secondary explosions confirming the destruction of their logistics base.
The NAF, in close collaboration with ground forces, continues to consolidate operational gains to maintain dominance in the region. Ongoing efforts are focused on clearing Alawa Forest and its environs of all criminal elements, with the aim of ensuring lasting peace and security for communities in Niger State and beyond.
Air Vice Marshal Akinboyewa reiterated the Nigerian Air Force’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property through sustained and strategic military operations.
