NNPC debunks explosion rumors, confirms routine maintenance at WRPC

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd. has dismissed reports of an explosion at the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC), clarifying that ongoing activities are part of scheduled maintenance.

According to Chief Corporate Communications Officer NNPC Ltd Abuja Olufemi Soneye operations at WRPC Area 1 were deliberately scaled down on January 25, 2025, to conduct necessary intervention works on key equipment, including field instruments critical for stable operations. The maintenance aims to ensure the production of quality petroleum products such as Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) and Kerosene.

Despite the temporary intervention, AGO loading has continued at an average of eight trucks per day over the past 11 days, ensuring an uninterrupted supply. NNPC reassured stakeholders that Area 1 would resume full operations in the coming days.

The company reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining product availability and thanked stakeholders for their patience and cooperation.
