The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has once again demonstrated its commitment to public safety and emergency response by swiftly deploying rescue operatives to contain a gas truck fire at the popular Otedola Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

According to Corps Public Education Officer, FRSC Headquarters, Abuja Olusegun Ogungbemide, the incident, which occurred on Tuesday, 11 March 2025, posed a significant threat to lives and property before emergency responders, including the Fire Service, arrived to cordon off the area and prevent further damage.

According to the FRSC’s rescue report, the crash involved 11 male adults. Five sustained injuries, while two lost their lives. A total of 15 vehicles were affected in the multiple crash, which was attributed to brake failure due to mechanical deficiency.

Expressing his displeasure over the preventable incident, FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed called on fleet managers to prioritize safety in fleet management. He warned that the Corps would impose sanctions on drivers and vehicle owners who compromise safety, in line with the National Road Traffic Regulations.

“The FRSC remains committed to ensuring the safety of all road users and will continue to deploy resources and expertise to respond to emergencies,” said Mohammed. He urged the public to stay vigilant and report emergencies through the FRSC’s toll-free emergency line, 122.
