Emir of Ilorin backs EFCC’s anti-corruption drive

The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Council of Traditional Chiefs, His Royal Highness Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, has pledged full support for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in its ongoing anti-corruption campaign.

The Emir gave the assurance while receiving the Ilorin Zonal Director of the EFCC, Mr. Daniel Isei, and his management team during a courtesy visit to the royal palace.

Commending the Commission’s efforts in tackling economic and financial crimes, the Emir emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in fighting corruption. “You have our support, our prayers, and our doors are always open,” he said, while also offering prayers for the success of EFCC Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede.

A retired Justice of the Court of Appeal, Sulu-Gambari recalled attending the commissioning of the EFCC’s zonal office in Ilorin and reaffirmed the palace’s commitment to assisting the Commission in its mission.

In his remarks, Mr. Isei acknowledged the influential role of traditional rulers in shaping public attitudes and promoting accountability. He emphasized the need for partnership with the royal institution to combat corruption, cybercrime, and illegal mining—issues he described as increasingly prevalent in the state.

“Though I’ve been in Ilorin for less than a month, I considered it imperative to seek your blessings first, recognizing the traditional institution’s importance in building public trust,” Isei said.

The visit also served as an opportunity to celebrate the Emir’s recent 85th birthday, with Mr. Isei and his team offering warm congratulations and wishes for continued good health and leadership.

The Zonal Director was accompanied by Cosmas Ugwu (Head, Legal and Prosecution), Kayode Adebayo (Head, Administration and Human Resources), and Ayodele Babatunde (Head, Public Affairs).
