The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended three suspects in connection with a sophisticated Q-Net scam that defrauded numerous unsuspecting Nigerians. The suspects — Olaniyan Joshua, Oyetunde Julius Akano, and Victor Oluwale — were arrested on Wednesday, 1 May 2025, in Abuja and are currently undergoing interrogation at the Commission’s facility.
According to EFCC officials, the trio operated under the company name Mighty Infinity Millionaire Limited and falsely presented themselves as representatives of Q-Net, an international e-commerce and direct selling company. Q-Net has since publicly disassociated itself from the suspects and their activities.
Further investigations by the EFCC uncovered that the suspects extended their fraudulent operations by running an illegal university training programme. Under the guise of affiliation with Quest International University, Malaysia, they offered fake Bachelor of Science degrees in Medicine, Nursing, Cybersecurity, Computer Studies, Geology, and other fields. Classes were reportedly conducted in makeshift venues, including open pavilions and under trees, without any formal accreditation.
Victims, many of whom were desperate to secure higher education qualifications, were charged between ₦1.2 million and ₦1.3 million as registration fees. Preliminary findings indicate that the suspects amassed hundreds of millions of naira from these fraudulent activities.
This latest arrest follows an earlier EFCC operation on 24 March 2025, during which operatives raided the so-called “Q-Net University” located at Compensation Layout, Gwagwalada, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. That operation led to the arrest of 133 suspects involved in similar deceptive schemes.
The EFCC has reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling networks of fraudsters exploiting vulnerable Nigerians under false pretenses. The Commission also cautions the public to exercise due diligence and verify the legitimacy of academic and business opportunities before making financial commitments.
The suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
