The Central Hub of the National Flood Early Warning Systems (FEWS) at the Federal Ministry of Environment in Abuja has issued a forecast for heavy rainfall and potential flooding in various locations and their surrounding areas from the 13th to the 17th of September 2023. The affected areas are as follows:
In Kano State: Sumaila and Kunchi.
In Kebbi State: Argungu.
In Katsina State: Bindawa, Jibia, Kaita, Katsina.
In Niger State: Kontagora, Mashegu, New Bussa.
In Kwara State: Kosubosu.
In Zamfara State: Kaura Namoda and Shinkafi.
In Bauchi State: Bajoga, Darazo, Kirfi, Azare, Jama ‘are, Itas, Misau.
In Taraba State: Beli, Donga, Lau, Serti, Mutum-Biyu, Yorro.
In Borno State: Briyel, Biu, Dikwa, Kukawa, Bama.
In Adamawa State: Ganye, Mubi, Demsa, Jimeta, Mayo Belwa, Numan, Shelleng, Song.
In Yobe State: Dapchi, Gashua, Geidam, Kanamma, Machina, Potiskum.
In Gombe State: Nafada.
In Jigawa State: Dutse, Gumel, Gwaram, Miga.
Additionally, communities along the River Benue and River Niger, up to Bayelsa State, should exercise caution due to rising water levels in these rivers. Precautionary measures are strongly recommended in these areas.
