NIMC targets full national enrollment by year-end

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced plans to complete the enrollment of all Nigerians into its national database by the end of 2025, with significant progress already made toward that goal.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, NIMC Director General, Abisoye Coker-Odusote, revealed that over 120 million Nigerians have been successfully captured so far. She stated that the Commission has expanded its enrollment infrastructure to reach communities at the ward level across the country to accelerate coverage.

“Our systems have been upgraded from a 100 million to a 250 million capacity, in line with international standards and digital best practices,” Coker-Odusote said. “With this, I can assure Nigerians that we are on track to enroll all citizens and legal residents before the end of the year.”

She also noted that over the past 18 months, the Commission has trained and reoriented its personnel to enhance efficiency and improve service delivery nationwide.

According to the DG, NIMC is working with about 120 government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to verify and update the National Social Register, resulting in the revalidation of 2.3 million Nigerians.

She further highlighted successful collaborations with the private sector, including banks and telecommunications companies, which have contributed to the elimination of fraudulent NIN registration sites and improved data integrity.

“NIN is now linked to key government initiatives such as the school feeding programme, student loans, and other social welfare schemes,” Coker-Odusote stated. “These efforts have helped cut waste, reduce identity fraud, and ensure that public resources reach the right beneficiaries.”

She urged citizens to take personal responsibility for safeguarding their data, emphasizing the importance of data protection in the digital age.
