Police rescue 12 children trafficked children, arrest suspects and recover arms

The Nigeria Police Force has achieved significant milestones in its ongoing efforts to combat crime and protect vulnerable populations.

Through coordinated operations in Abia and Kogi States, officers successfully rescued 12 trafficked children, arrested two suspects, and recovered a substantial cache of illegal firearms and ammunition.

In a press release issued on Monday, June 2nd, and signed by Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force detailed the outcomes of these operations. In Kogi State, police operatives intercepted a green Sharon vehicle that had evaded a security checkpoint at high speed.

After a pursuit, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled into a nearby bush. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of five AK-47 rifles, eight magazines, and over 340 rounds of various calibres of ammunition. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect, who is believed to be linked to a recent armed robbery incident in Kabba.

Meanwhile, in Abia State, officers acting on credible intelligence apprehended Blessing Emebo (49) and Sunday Emebo (42) for operating an unregistered orphanage in their residential apartment on Ikot Ekpene Road, Aba. Twelve children, aged between six months and fourteen years, were rescued from the premises and have been placed under the care of the Abia State Ministry of Women Affairs. The suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, commended the operatives for their dedication and professionalism. He reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ensuring public safety and eliminating criminal activities nationwide.

The IGP also urged members of the public to remain vigilant, refrain from entrusting children to unfamiliar individuals, and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
