The Director-General of the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC), Rt. Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub, has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the successful signing of a landmark Technical Manpower Assistance Agreement with the government of Saint Lucia.
Yakub described the agreement as a direct outcome of President Tinubu’s strategic push to broaden Nigeria’s technical diplomacy footprint across the Caribbean, particularly through the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).
The agreement was signed on July 2, 2025, in Castries, the capital of Saint Lucia, by the NTAC DG and the Acting Permanent Secretary of Saint Lucia’s Ministry of External Affairs, International Trade, Civil Aviation and Diaspora Affairs, Janelle Modeste-Stephen.
Under the terms of the agreement, Nigerian professionals—ranging from teachers and medical personnel to agricultural experts—will be deployed to serve in Saint Lucia for two years. The initiative aims to promote South-South cooperation and reconnect with the African diaspora in the Caribbean.
Key Provisions of the Agreement Include:
-
Deployment of Nigerian Experts: Professionals will support Saint Lucia’s development efforts across key sectors.
-
Cost-Sharing Structure: Nigeria will provide allowances and logistics, while Saint Lucia will offer accommodation and local support.
-
Strategic Alignment: The agreement reinforces President Tinubu’s commitment to regional integration and global partnerships through technical diplomacy.
Speaking on the development, Yakub said: “This landmark agreement is a testament to President Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to South-South cooperation and Nigeria’s leadership in technical diplomacy. We look forward to our volunteers making a meaningful impact in Saint Lucia.”
He commended the President for fostering international collaboration and emphasized Nigeria’s readiness to share its human capital for mutual development with partner nations.
