Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, has commended the state-of-the-art infrastructure and capabilities of the Defence Reference Laboratory at Mogadishu Cantonment and the Military Medical Centre in Wuse 2, Abuja.
Prof. Adeyeye gave the commendation during a facility tour on Monday, as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between NAFDAC and Nigeria’s military medical institutions.
Describing the facilities as “world-class,” she noted that the laboratories are equipped with cutting-edge technology capable of producing internationally recognised test results. She drew a comparison with NAFDAC’s own Vaccine, Biologics, and Medical Devices Laboratory in Yaba, Lagos, highlighting the potential for synergy between both institutions.
“I am pleasantly surprised by the level of sophistication here. Many Nigerians are unaware that such a facility exists within the country,” Prof. Adeyeye stated. “We must change the narrative that quality medical science only exists abroad.”

She was conducted around the facility by Brigadier General I.B. Solebo, Director-General of the Military Medical Centre, and expressed appreciation for the professionalism and discipline of the staff. She called for enhanced visibility of the Centre and increased public and institutional support to maximise its potential.
Prof. Adeyeye emphasised that greater collaboration between civilian regulatory bodies and military medical institutions could significantly boost Nigeria’s capacity in diagnostics, research, and public health.
