Amnesty International trains Southwest journalists on human rights reporting

Amnesty International Nigeria has held a skills-sharing session for journalists from Oyo, Ondo, Ogun, Osun, and Ekiti States in Ibadan, aimed at enhancing human rights reporting across the Southwest region.

The training, titled “Strengthening Human Rights Reporting in the Southwest,” brought together media professionals from print, online, and broadcast platforms. It focused on investigative journalism techniques designed to promote the public interest and uphold ethical reporting standards.

Each session provided practical tools, knowledge, and strategies to empower journalists in advancing freedom and justice through impactful storytelling.

Amnesty International reiterated its commitment to press freedom, describing it as a cornerstone of a rights-respecting society. The organisation emphasised that the ability of the media to report freely and independently—without threats, intimidation, or reprisals—is essential to holding governments and other powerful entities accountable.

The initiative is part of Amnesty’s broader efforts to support journalists in safeguarding the right to freedom of expression and access to information.
