The Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, Engr. Dr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, has called for sustained and enhanced security collaboration with the 22 Armoured Brigade of the Nigerian Army to address emerging threats within the institution and its environs.
In a statement Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations 22 Armoured Brigade, Ilorin Captain Stephen Nwankwo said during a courtesy visit to the Brigade Headquarters at Sobi Cantonment, Ilorin, on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, the Rector commended the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Ezra Barkins, for his consistent support in combating cultism and other criminal activities on campus.
“I am here to reciprocate your earlier visit and to express our deep appreciation for your continued intervention in our security challenges. Your presence and deployment have drastically reduced cultism and boosted peace within our community,” Dr. Abdul Jimoh stated.
He emphasized the importance of sustaining the partnership, noting that the visible presence of military personnel around the campus has had a deterrent effect on crime.
In his response, Brigadier General Barkins reaffirmed the Brigade’s readiness to deepen the existing collaboration, urging stakeholders to share timely intelligence to enable prompt action. He highlighted the Nigerian Army’s commitment under the Chief of Army Staff’s leadership to creating a safe and secure environment through joint and multi-agency operations.
“Security is everyone’s responsibility,” the Commander said. “We encourage communities to remain vigilant, limit late-night movements, and exercise caution in public discourse.”
The visit concluded with an exchange of souvenirs, the signing of the visitors’ book, and a group photograph—symbolising a renewed pledge to foster peace and security through institutional cooperation.
