Nigeria mourns Ghanaian ministers killed in helicopter crash

The Federal Government of Nigeria has extended its heartfelt condolences to the Republic of Ghana following a tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of two cabinet ministers and other senior officials on Wednesday.

The victims include Ghana’s Minister of Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, and the Minister of Environment, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, who were en route to Obuasi when the crash occurred.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa described the incident as a devastating loss not only for Ghana but for the wider West African region.

“This tragic event has robbed Ghana of exemplary public servants whose dedication to national service, regional security, and environmental sustainability will be remembered with great respect,” the statement read.

The Federal Government expressed solidarity with the people and government of Ghana, offering prayers for the repose of the departed and strength for their families during this difficult time.

“Nigeria stands with Ghana in this time of national mourning. We reaffirm our shared commitment to the enduring friendship and cooperation between our nations,” the statement concluded.
