Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have rescued seven kidnap victims in Taraba State following a coordinated operation targeting criminal hideouts.
In a statement, Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations 6 Brigade Nigerian Army Lieutenant Umar Muhammad said the victims were abducted on 3 August 2025 along the Chinkai–Kente–Wukari road. The military launched a search and rescue mission on 5 and 6 August, during which troops engaged the kidnappers in Chinkai Forest and Owedi Community in Wukari Local Government Area. The criminals, overwhelmed by the troops’ superior firepower, fled, abandoning the victims.
Four victims were rescued unharmed on 5 August, while three others, all female, were recovered the next day.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade/ Sector 3 OPWS, commended the troops for their swift and professional response, describing the operation as a major success in the ongoing fight against kidnapping in the region.
He reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to sustained operations aimed at neutralising criminal elements and ensuring the safety of residents in Taraba State.
