The Federal Project Management Unit (FPMU) of the Nigeria Climate Adaptation – Erosion and Watershed Project (NEWMAP-EIB) has held a strategic meeting with 23 State Project Coordinators in Abuja to finalize readiness and work plans ahead of the release of project funds.
The meeting, held on Monday, August 11, 2025, focused on harmonizing state-level preparedness, addressing outstanding issues, and ensuring compliance with the European Investment Bank’s (EIB) disbursement requirements.

National Project Coordinator, Engr. Ayuba Anda Yalaks, confirmed that the project has been declared technically and disbursement effective, with the first tranche of EIB funding already received. He stressed that only states visited and assessed by the FPMU will qualify for initial disbursements, in line with bank recommendations.
Engr. Yalaks cautioned against unnecessary staff changes—especially involving account signatories—which could trigger delays or concerns from the bank. States yet to secure the required “No Objection” for staff composition, he warned, will face postponed releases.
Chairman of the Project Coordinators Forum, Dr. Philip Uche Echiegu, urged participants to work collaboratively towards shared project goals, while Director of Erosion, Flood and Coastal Zone Management at the Federal Ministry of Environment, Mr. Usman Abdullahi Bokani, encouraged coordinators to pursue all avenues for effective implementation.
The session was attended by State Project Coordinators, Heads of Project Financial Management Units, Procurement Officers, Project Accountants, Monitoring and Evaluation Officers, and FPMU specialists.
