President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the winners of the by-elections conducted on Saturday, August 16, across 16 constituencies in 12 states of the federation.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga, the President lauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the peaceful and largely violence-free conduct of the polls, describing the outcome as a boost for Nigeria’s democratic process.
According to results declared by INEC, the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured victories in 12 constituencies, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) won in two, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) won one constituency each.
President Tinubu also congratulated the new APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, on the party’s emphatic first electoral victory under his leadership, noting that it demonstrated the strength of unity and the benefits of fielding popular candidates.
“To all APC faithful and the electorate, thank you for the confidence reposed in our party. Be assured that our Renewed Hope slogan is not a mere slogan. Our destination is a better, more secure and prosperous Nigeria. We shall take you there, by the Grace of God,” the President affirmed.
He further commended APC governors and party leaders for their role in the successful outcome, while urging all political parties and candidates to embrace sportsmanship, fair contest, and magnanimity — values he described as vital for sustaining Nigeria’s democracy.
