The House of Representatives has reaffirmed its unity and support for Speaker Rt. Hon. Dr. Abbas Tajudeen, dismissing media reports of an alleged crisis within the chamber.
Reacting to a publication in Leadership Newspapers suggesting an impending “showdown,” the House clarified that informal conversations among members, including on WhatsApp platforms, do not represent official caucus or House positions.
Spokesman of the House, Rep. Akin Rotimi Jr., stressed that parliamentary decisions are taken through established procedures, ensuring that all 360 members across political, ethnic, and religious lines are represented.
“The 10th Assembly has remained united under Speaker Abbas, reaching consensus on national issues while giving every member a voice,” Rotimi stated.
On constituency projects, the House said delayed contractor payments were a nationwide challenge but assured that engagements with the Ministry of Finance had led to the commencement of payments. The leadership pledged to ensure outstanding 2024 obligations are cleared expeditiously.
The House also clarified that recruitment into the National Assembly bureaucracy was the statutory responsibility of the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC), not the Speaker or the leadership. However, an investigation has been ordered by the Speaker to ensure fairness, merit, and federal character compliance.
Rejecting suggestions of regional bias in development projects, the House described such claims as false and divisive, reaffirming its commitment to equity, justice, and fairness.
“The House remains focused on resumption on September 23, 2025, with renewed commitment to national priorities,” Rotimi concluded.
