EFCC arrests 17 suspected internet fraudsters in Lagos

Seventeen suspected internet fraudsters have been arrested in Lagos in the latest sting operation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Operatives of the Lagos Zonal Directorate II stormed Olusi Street, HopeVille Estate, Sangotedo, Ajah, on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, following intelligence reports linking the suspects to alleged online scams.

The raid led to the recovery of five vehicles, several mobile phones, and laptop computers allegedly used to carry out fraudulent activities.

The EFCC said the suspects are in custody and are already providing useful information. They will be charged to court once investigations are completed.

In recent months, the EFCC has intensified its crackdown on cybercrime, with coordinated arrests across Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt. The agency insists the operations are part of efforts to protect Nigeria’s digital economy and deter youths from engaging in internet fraud.
