Amnesty International Nigeria has called on authorities to immediately launch an independent and impartial investigation into the killing of Engineer Abdulraheem Mustapha Abubakar, who died on Friday, 29 August 2025, in Kaduna.
Abdulraheem, a postgraduate student at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), was reportedly killed near Garkuwa Hospital junction on Sultan Road when a police van knocked down the motorcycle he was riding.
His family has accused the police of attempting to cover up the incident, a claim Amnesty International insists must be thoroughly investigated.
“The killing of Abdulraheem yet again shows increasing utter disregard for the sanctity of life. The Nigerian authorities must immediately prioritize opening an investigation that is independent, impartial, and transparent,” said Isa Sanusi, Director of Amnesty International Nigeria.
The rights group stressed that the investigation should be conducted by a body entirely separate from the Nigeria Police to guarantee impartiality and maintain public trust in the process.
